ANGER IS AN ENERGIZER
Anger energizes our body to take action
When we are angry we have an impulse to fight or flight
Our impulse is our body’s attempt to problem solve and survive a perceived
Threat
We have a choice: we can choose to act or not act on our impulse
Our challenge when we are feeling angry is to “Stop and Think”:
“Will my impulse work for me or against me?”
ANGER IS AN INFORMER
Our angry feelings signal us that a problem exists. For example our problem
Could be: intrapersonal,societal,environmental,etc.
Our challenge is to validate and defuse angry feelings so that we
Can identify,understand and resolve the underlying problem that exists.
BELIEFS ABOUT ANGER
It's not okay feel angry
Anger is a waste of time and energy.
Good,nice people don’t feel angry.
We shouldn’t feel angry when we do.
We’ll lose control and go crazy if we get angry.
People will go away if we get angry.
Other people should never feel anger toward us.
If others get angry at us, we must ave done something wrong.
If other people are angry at us, we made them feel that person is responsible for
Fixing our feelings.
If we feel angry at someone, the relationship is ofer and that person has to go away.
If we feel angry at someone, we should punish that person for making us feel angry.
If we feel angry at someone, that person has to change what he or she is doing so
We don’t feel angry any more.
If we feel angry we have to hit someone or break something.
If we feel angry, we have to shout and holler.
If we feel angry at someone, it means we don’t love that person anymore.
If someone feels angry at us, it means that person doesn’t love us anymore.
Anger is a sinful emotion.
It's okay to feel angry only when we can justify our feelings.
